DOUBLE SIZED SUPER ISSUE
Bird facts, updates, Bruce pics! It's like we missed a week last week or something!
I meant to send a newsletter last week, but I got distracted by Krista and I taking a trip to Spokane to go take part in the GOING HOME season finale!
This was a really fun event put together by our showrunner, Dan Merchant, and a whole lot of the cast and crew and people in the Spokane area came together to watch the last episode of the season together. We had a great time!

It was really fun. We enjoyed hanging out with the cast and crew and our friends who showed up, and it was a great reminder of all the amazing things we’ve been a part of these last couple of years. So thankful to the whole gang, and also to our family that let us crash with them while we in the area!
My new book came out THE SAME DAY as the big party!
I’m really pleased with how this book turned out. A beautiful journey of prayer alongside Patrick of Ireland this is, of course, the best time of year to give it a whirl.
Watch Kathy and I at West Hills Covenant Church a few weekends ago!
Kathy and I were so pleased to be able to worship together with the fine folks at West Hills Covenant Church, and preach together. It was a really fun time, and you can watch it all here!
My Second Cup of Coffee with Mark Charles
Our friend Mark Charles also had us on his morning show to talk about LOVING DISAGREEMENT!
It’s fun to see my friends in DEADLINE!!
Cool news about Aaron Burns (my co-writer on PRAYING WITH SAINT PATRICK and the director of my movie LEGACY PEAK).
Dan Merchant (see above!) reflects on faith-based programming.
And here’s an article I wrote about creative writing:
Every writer’s first requirement.
#BirdFacts
I love birds so much. I could probably start a second newsletter called #BirdFacts and just write about birds every week.
One thing I do on car trips is count birds. Not all birds (because there are LOTS of birds out there), but all the hawks, eagles, and other raptors.
On our trip back from Spokane, for instance, we saw:
14 hawks
6 bald eagles
3 kestrels
Here’s a fun bird fact!
Bald eagles aren’t born with the characteristic white feathers on their heads! The white feathers grow in over the course of a few years.
Both male and female bald eagles have white heads. The best way to tell them apart is that female bald eagle tends to be about 25% bigger/heavier than the males.
Anyway, if you see a white-headed bald eagle, you know it’s at least 4-5 years old.
The natural lifespan of a bald eagle in the wild is 20-30 years1!
Bruce!
Bruce is not a fan of bald eagles.
Have a wonderful week, and peace to you!
Matt
In captivity there have been some to live to 50 years old!
Not everyone who wishes to watch Coming Home is a native speaker of English. The show could really use subtitles!
